Tell Teo what you smell like!

Hawke does not have any supernatural abilities of her own.

She does however have a dog. He has an exceptionally good sense of smell and a habit of identifying/nicknaming people based on what they smell like/personality traits/whatever seems a good idea to him at the time (these names periodically change as the dominant characteristic he associates with them changes). Also he's very intelligent for a canine (moreso than he acts) and capable of identifying if you are not exactly human/able to use magic (which has a scent)/etc. If you'd like to tell him what your character smells like or characteristics that a very clever dog might pick up on, that'd be helpful and perhaps useful for comedy or plot later on. (it will not be a very exciting name; he's a dog, he has a limited vocabulary no matter how smart he is)

Don't worry, he can't talk. Though he may find other ways of indicating to Hawke that something is Odd.

Duck obviously smells like a duck. But also like a human being. She's clumsy and earnest and kind and idek what else you want.

Edward smells like a king or an ubermensch or something. Why is this permissions post so hard to fill out? I have one which is very similar.

Anna smells like hot water, metal, rust, and faintly of psychic powers. She isn't a mage per se, but ANIMa piloting reads as magical to magical beings.

Georgia's smell is probably that of her suit, since any time she's out, she'll be sealed off from the station's air supply. If somehow she was out, folks infected with Kellis-Amberlee have a smell -- faintly of zombie. She's dry and cynical, but also stubborn and determined. Anytime she's around a large dog, though, she'll be on-edge. (Georgia's parents lost their first child to a zombie golden retriever, and in general, mammalian carnivores/omnivores larger than 30-40 lbs. are nearly extinct except for very careful captivity programs in her world.)

Ai and Lafiel both probably smell like whatever machinery they've been working with. Ai is cheerful and earnest and a standard human.

Lafiel is kind of cranky and serious, and egotistical -- and usually will be cranky to cover when she's in over her head. She's also genetically modified (as if the blue hair, (covered) 'third eye', and pointed ears weren't a clue), so smells like human + something. Since she looks more like an elf than a human, the fact she smells more human is probably a giveaway as to her ancestry.

Tavros is full of all kinds of animal smells from all the time he spends in the habitats playing with them. And, of course, he's an alien.

As a side note, how do you feel about Tavros using his psychic powers on the dog if they ever do meet? He can make animals obey him. Most of the time, he just befriends every one of them, but in special circumstances he'll have perform tasks or even fight.

And hmm, interesting idea. Certainly he can/should befriend Teo, Hawke's been wanting to talk to Tavros as well and Teo makes a good catalyst for everything. Teo is a warhound though, so frankly he's going to be a better fighter on his own than with psychic guidance. But no, I don't mind. Teo might, though, so be prepared for that. He'd take it as a threat to his partnership with Hawke, someone trying to commandeer it, and that would not make him happy at all.

Martin smells like lavender and clean cotton, with a tingle of metal (he carries a dagger). He's a magic user and 'dragonborn' too, don't know if Teo can smell magic or blood traits. His personality is amiable and a bit timid, though this changes if he needs to push for something (because Martin's an emperor, and he knows when he should act like one)

Without Therru around to be Dragon Girl, Martin can now be Dragon Man. Which will confuse Teo. Why does he smell like dragon!?!? Strange human. Watch him closely. If he grows scales, beware. (all right, so I'm amused by this)

Faolan is a young werewolf. He will thus smell both of human and of wolf, will smell male, and will probably smell like the outdoors just about all the time because he is hyper and likes to run around.

He might also sometimes smell of alcohol because his grandmother is an alcoholic and he is sometimes sent to bring her home. And sometimes of blood because he's a wolf puppy and he likes to go hunting.

This is also your chance at reciprocal, because Faolan's puppy nose is also pretty good. [And he can likely bark-chat with Teo, if we want to have that CR.]

I'd already thought along those lines too. *grin* Would love for Teo and Faolan to bark-chat, or at least play a good deal! Teo will just smells like big fighting-type dog. Hawke smells like leather, metal, and determination, if determination has a smell. Feel free to make things up based on your/Faolan's observations of them, though. =)

Bakura: Smells like a city, wood shavings (he carves) and botanicals (hair care).
Raven Prince: Tainted blood, feathers. Not really human.
Hawk: Smells like earth and metal and coffee. He's a blacksmith with a caffeine addiction.

Giotto (this journal): Mostly human, though there's something demigod-ish several generations back in his family tree? He does have active powers which would probably be sort of flame/heat/sky/open air smelling, little metal from wearing gauntlets all the time, he's been in the house for a year and might've picked up more of it's scent than usual/most for a few other reasons. He's got an odd pseudo-empathic ability and is basically decent/likes people/he will only ever be as dangerous to someone as they are to him/others, and pretty forgiving if people -STOP-, with a tendency to be protective of others. (He was dead before the house, sooo.)

Mukuro vipassi: ahahahahah. Let's see, he was born as a human experiment/lab rat attempting to make a living weapon! He was killed and revived repeatedly and has the potential for a sort of power that's as near as I can figure using the void between "Mortal realm and elsewhere", though it's not active. His strongest active power is fog/mist/illusions aligned! He'll also partially shapeshift, which I try to note where he is on that in posts/tags; basically, his "human" self is a complete living weapon, the others are things leaking from time spent other-lives as other-things, ranging from an odd sort of demon to a minor divine being to a big cat depending on when you catch him. He's paranoid and a little misanthropic but Zen Buddhist and getting better, and prone to being a bit "living karmic retribution" prone back in his world. There's probably a lot of old blood/death though none of it's really recent, and he's been living out of an abandoned amusement park - dust, must, etc.
*He's also now constantly wearing a coat that he got from one of the gods in Maison.

Spade/Rosario: bestamontillado Not always there! He's a spirit bound to a relic Mukuro has, who occasionally uses the body of a construct-familiar owl; so he'd smell like something not-natural-owl partly made of mist and other power. He's got a shitload of issues, anxiety problems, and an occasionally dangerous temper.

Kuja: silver_lucifer Not human. At all. He's actually a created being/sort of an odd prototype offshoot of a race of created organic life made by a world that seems to've had organic-based/magic-based technology, and he was weaponized via magic - walking weapon of mass destruction, though he does have healing magic. He was used as such for his entire life back home; he's taking the House as a chance to start over as something besides his creator's weapon that's not supposed to have a mind of his own. He's still learning how things like "empathy for others" work - he's good at faking it and trying to go through motions until he catches on, and his current sense of ethics is Enlightened Self Interest more than altruism. /might be another odd scent on him that relates to an NPC. A lot of magic, bits of heat/ozone/frost, maybe holdovers from living in basically high-class surroundings most of the time.
Also usually accompanied by a now-cat-sized silver dragon. Sondren is about as intelligent as a small child/parrot and is a spoiled little brat.

Soma: eternal_night_ends AHAHAHAHAHA. He's the reincarnation of his world's Lord of Darkness/Big Bad, and thanks to Maison events, has all the memories of, if the old personality got broken. As himself, he's basically a slightly derpy, "can be intelligent but doesn't use it" late-teenager prone to never say die and charging into things. ...he's also another world's Lord of Darkness, and it's canon that his aura's thick/strong enough that most normal people find him kind of creepy whether they can pin down why or not. (Him opening his mouth kind of creates a lot of cognitive dissonance on that since he's ... a derpy and basically friendly person with slightly stunted social skills.) He's technically sort of halfway vampire, which'll skew it again.

Saguru: stalking_horse Perfectly normal human! He's an "amateur" detective who's spent a lot of time chasing fairly spectacular/complicated cases, and probably has some semi-permanent residue from things like forensics labs and murder scenes; chemicals, blood that usually wasn't fresh when he got there, cleaners, etc. He's sort of the human equivalent of a born and raised service dog - he's not always great at people and social, has an ego and a tendency to be annoying sometimes, but he kind of exists to solve problems and do something about things that're hurting people.

Kuja: Fortunately this one I'm familiar with. FF9 is hugely underrated in my opinion; it's my second favorite FF game. =) I'm looking forward to seeing what you're doing with him.

Chrome just smells like human girl, however she is followed around by a translucent coyote covered in foot-long porcupine quills that smells like snow. Chrome often smells like Mukuro. She's a pretty ordinary girl, although whatever 'Kuro's illusions register as she has as well. Sometimes she has Spade with her. She's a teeny manipulative bastard and very good at it.

Kiziah smells like big cat and is pretty obviously not human, more description on her journal but that should give you an idea. Ki is a peak predator. Not human, never was human, baffled by human things. She's remarkably civilized for a nomadic savage, but at the end of the day she is used to being the biggest, baddest predator on the savannah. (She's learned better in Maison, but some things take forever to wear off.) She's also my only "Good" aligned character, has an adopted eight-year-old human, and will make anyone who hurts one of "her" kittens eat their own face. Literally. Don't touch the kittens.

Dr. Simon Lee smells like burnt ozone and smoke and is hot. Not good looking, more "third degree burns". Simon is...not evil. Nor is he good. Fire doesn't do "good" and "evil", fire just burns, and he's as much fire as he is human. He's a dick, though, and very hot tempered. (His first Maison post he ignited four rooms, the orchard, and Ichigo's Hollow. Yes.)

Simon: Something tells me he's going to just be Fire Man. Whoa.

Ienzo has a rather sensitive nose himself, so most of the time he keeps himself very clean and will smell fairly pleasant...to a person. To a dog there's an unfortunate absence of meaty food smells on his hands, though there's the occasional buttery-sweet crumbs of tea biscuits.

Here in the house, especially in anticipation of long stretches of darkness, he favors spoiling himself in the Scented Bathroom fairly often, so he's commonly a 'clean', soapy scent on the skin with lingering hints of spiced amber and vanillas, sometimes hints of something sharp and more herbal. Pleasant old library book binding and leather smells are prevalent also.

When he pulls out his Lexicon out from the shadows he also invites a bit of Darkness along with it, which Kingdom Hearts canon (Riku) describes as an offensive stench.

But Ienzo's also an illusionist who will clear the air of particularly nasty smells for his own sake, so the first thing to notice in his vicinity may in fact be the lack of them.

Mizuno Ami/Mercury

As for her basic scent, she smells like hair rinse/conditioner or that crisp winter's day smell of ice. Imagine licking an icicle and that taste and smell. I should note someone probably would not distinguish that Ami=Mercury by this despite the similar scents, since even friends and family don't note the physical similarities so there seems to be a sort of magical illusion/glamour blocking that sort of recognition.

Magic, however... Someone could definitely pick up that she has magic, enhanced by her dark powers now. The potential would be notable in both forms, though probably much more so in Mercury form since that's the one she accesses those powers in. Depending on specifics on your end, it might be possible to tell two conflicting scents related to this, representing her natural magic and her corrupted ones. (The corrupted might smell more like the faint stink of a stagnant pond instead of the clear ice since it's a lot of her natural self twisted and held back.) There might, or might also be a faint smell of rose since she transforms amid black rose petals that become part of her uniform in the sequence.

Alternately, or additionally, sailor senshi have 'an aura of 'stars and planets' in broader canon. There might not be a frame of reference to identify it correctly, but there might be something equivalent filtered through this scent since it can pick up magic. (Astronauts have reported hot metal smells like welding smells or seared steak or ozone clinging to their equipment when they come back from space walks, that they say is fairly pleasant, if you'd want to play with that.)

Hmm, so I'm not allowed to have the dog pick up that Ami and Mercury are the same? Can he pick up that they're very similar? ...actually arguably they *aren't* the same person, exactly, so I have no problem with that. (even if the dog picked up they were the same person or closely connected, he wouldn't be able to tell Hawke, assuming Hawke suffers from the same "Oh, these two people who look almost identical are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT REALLY" disconnect that everyone else gets)

Niall isn't 100% human, which is good in his opinion since he doesn't like humans. He probably has a lingering smell of magic about him (not DA style magic, so would it smell different? Who knows.)

He probably smells like blood and sweat and fox (literally) and since animals are prone to picking up things like fear/strong emotions and behaviours more than humans, he's never afraid -- he carries himself with the confidence of a predator.

That never afraid aspect is good, thanks. Emotions and behaviors are best, since they're things Teo would notice, but which I might not pick up. And ooh, Reynard, that's creative and nifty.

As for magic smells, eh, who knows, will make it up as I go!

Aoko: Smells basically like human girl, with a hint of metal near her wrists. Faint flower scents from shampoo/conditioner, but no perfume.

Ken (flehmenresponse): Smells like a mix of unwashed teenage boy and lion. And a little bit of monkey, cheetah and wolf thrown in for flavour. He also smells like the people he keeps close company with: Mukuro, Chrome, Chikusa, Kiziah. His scent may change depending on what aspect of his power's he's using; I make sure to note in tag when he does so!

Soubi (blankfighter): Smells like human male, clean and with scents of paint. He also keeps a baby on him at all times, so he'll smell like her and she'll smell a little like him.

Magus smells like a human, although there's a scent of ozone/sulfur in there with it. He's a grump (who loves cats).

He doesn't look human (grey skin, red eyes, blue hair) but he still is, just warped by shadows and demonic magic. He is a powerful magic user, as well.

For Orihime, the most basic/detectable scents are likely stale soap (or whatever the house provides for the guests to bathe) and dust. She used to smell nicer, but. :| On a deeper, more intrinsic level, probably blood, flowers, and/or magic.

Jack... smells like cold. That's really the best way to describe it. Like being in the middle of a snowstorm. He doesn't smell human, as he hasn't been for a very long time, and in fact isn't even technically alive anymore (which also means no heartbeat and no body heat to speak of). I'm not sure what his powers/staff would smell like, exactly, since they're magic but not MAGIC. If that makes any sense whatsoever. Once he's made the ice/snow/whatever, it's just normal, everyday ice/snow/whatever, so really, if anything, it's the staff that's going to smell magicky.

Which, btw, if the dog ever manages to catch the staff unattended, he's perfectly welcome to try to steal the OMG HUGE STICK if that is something the dog would like to do. As long as it doesn't end up broken (and it's a lot tougher than a stick of its size should be, as long as it doesn't get crunched on.)

As for personality and such, Jack is the Guardian of Fun. That's what's at his core, his center, so while he does have other emotions fairly often, 9 times out of 10, something 'fun' is what's motivating him.

I only just saw this movie last week. What excellent timing.

Oh man. Teo stealing the staff is SO happening. Can we plan on that? I want to do that. So much. Teo and Jack are going to get along just fine. (Hawke will be off in the background going "Oh, brother...", but that's her problem). Teo probably will gnaw on the stick and possibly could crunch it, but he's used to mages and their staves and probably wouldn't destroy it.

So Eilonwy! Her basic smell is probably something like fresh grass. Her main personality traits are chattering, outgoing, more or less fearless, and forgiving.

As for magic and being, she's human, but from a lineage of very powerful and world-renowned enchantresses, so she is definitely able to use magic. She never really applied herself as much as she should have, though, so what magic she uses is often basic.

(Curious now: If she were ever updated to when she renounces her ability to use magic, would the scent disappear too?)

He'd be able to smell the enchantments/magic, I think! The books state that it's in her blood, so yep, if she's ever updated to post book five I'd say her smell will change. =)

Dogs in particular tend to have two reactions. They either cower away from him and become violently aggressive.

Teo doesn't cower from anything. He's not likely to become violently aggressive either, truthfully, not unless Hawke herself is, but he probably will be distrustful.

No matter how clean she is, Elissa is always going to bear the scent of the Taint to someone with delicate enough senses. Since she usually wears linen trousers and a loose shirt when working on the Triton's Mistress, she doesn't smell of leather nearly as much as she used to!


I am soooo excited to have a Mabari around. Elissa will be overjoyed. She misses her own dog. He was left behind to protect the gates of Denerim when she went to Fort Drakon, so he didn't make it to High Seas.

Teo's a one-woman dog, like all mabari, but he'll be nice enough to Elissa. He's actually pretty friendly. =) And yep, he'll definitely smell that taint! I never thought of a good mabari-phrase for Warden, though. Hmmm.

The Grand Elusa smells sort of like a spider, but not. There's an acrid touch, but also a vivid sweet spice. And probably traces of prey she's taken.

Julien generally smells like a clean pigeon - baking bread, feathers, heat, sweet flesh. He's not got much human left, and normal cats and dogs often think he smells like prey. :( He also smells like a lot of different people including his quasi-girlfriend Isabela, though I expect that will fade.
